C-N AND PC EACH WON A GAME IN SAC DOUBLEHEADER JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn.
- The Carson-Newman Lady Eagles and Presbyterian Blue Hose
each won a game in a South Atlantic Conference (SAC) twin-bill
Tuesday afternoon with C-N taking the first contest 6-2 and PC
winning game two, 4-0. In game one, the Lady Eagles scored two runs
early and added two late runs to top the Blue Hose 6-2. C-N
scored two runs in the first inning when Lisa Rogers (Rossville,
Ga.) hit a sacrifice fly and Lyndsi Craig (Roanoke,
Va.) singled to score Haley Allen (Newport, Tenn.). The Blue Hose tied the score with two runs
in the top of the third inning. Jamie
Vining (Fayetteville, Ga.), this week's SAC
Player of the Week, hit the first of back-to-back triples to
score Rachel Bailey
(Howard, Ohio) who had earlier walked. Amanda
Teal (Chapin, S.C.) brought Vining home with a triple
to right field. After LeAndrea Johnson (Chattanooga,
Tenn.) had given C-N a 3-2 lead when she scored on a
wild pitch in the third, Erin Rutherford (Knoxville,
Tenn.) hit an inside-the-park homerun to right field in the
fifth inning. The Lady Eagles would add two insurance runs in the home-half of the sixth. Libby Seal (Greenback, Tenn.) stole home and Kim Thorne's (Dalton, Ga.) sacrifice hit plated Cristi Benton (Snellville, Ga.) to produce the 6-2 final. The Blue Hose would bounce back to win game
two behind a brilliant pitching performance by Samantha
Slater (Westerfield, Ohio). She pitched the
complete-game shut-out and struck out five C-N batters while
walking none. PC scored two runs in the top of the second
inning. Lauren
Hixson (Spartanburg, S.C.) doubled, stole second base
and then scored when a pick-off attempt by C-N at third base
sailed into the outfield to allow her to come home. The second
run came when Bailey hit a sacrifice fly to center field to
score Amanda Carvajal (Merced,
Calif.). Katie
Fite (Conway,
S.C.) blasted a solo homerun to centerfield in the PC fourth
inning and the Blue Hose iced the game in the seventh when Jessica
Peterka (Sarasota, Fla.) brought Vining home with a
sacrifice fly to right field to produce the 4-0 final. |
