8, 2004 BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL TAKES TWO FROM FLYING FLEET, 4-3 & 10-2 DUE
WEST, SC---Presbyterian took both games of a double header
from Erskine Monday afternoon in softball action, 4-3 &
10-2. The Blue Hose scored a run in the first to take the early lead. The Fleet would answer with two runs in the fourth, capped off by an RBI single from Belinda Oakley. Erskine would add another run in the fifth to take a 3-1 lead into the last two innings. Presbyterian would tie the game in the sixth when Lauren Hixson (Spartanburg, S.C.) would score on a single from Amanda Teal (Chapin, S.C.). The Blue Hose would score the go ahead run in the seventh on back to back errors by the Fleet, and hold Erskine scoreless in the bottom of the inning to take the 4-3 victory. Nicki Templeton (Clinton, S.C.) led Presbyterian, going 2-4, while Teal finished 1-3 with an RBI. Olivia Hazel picked up the win, pitching two shut out innings in relief. Jenna Burdette led the Fleet offense, going 2-3 with a run scored. Jana Craft, Rebecca Clontz, and Elizabeth Miller all had doubles for Erskine in the loss. Kim Gunter took the loss, allowing four unearned runs in seven innings of work. In
game two, Presbyterian once again scored in the first to take
the early lead, and would add two more in the fourth to take a
3-0 lead. The
Fleet would answer with two runs in the bottom of the fourth
to pull within one run, but the Blue Hose would explode for
seven runs in the fifth to take the 10-2 victory.
Teal once again led Presbyterian, going 2-3 with a
double and four RBI’s, while Amanda
Carvajal (Merced, CA) was 1-1 with two runs batted in.
Jessica
Flanagan (Piedmont, S.C.) picked up her fourth win of
the season, allowing two unearned runs in five innings of
work. Elizabeth
Miller was 1-3 with a triple, while Craft finished the
game 1-3. Miller
took the loss, allowing 10 runs, four earned in five innings
of work. Presbyterian
improves to 17-2 on the season, while Erskine falls to 8-14.
