BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH LANDER UNIVERSITY
Lander ends PC's 10 game winning streak in game one, 6-3, while 
the Blue Hose win game two, 3-1

CLINTON, S.C. — Presbyterian College fell to Lander University 6-3 in game one but came back and won the second game 3-1 Thursday afternoon at the PC softball Complex. The Lady Blue Hose improve to 11-2 on the season while the Bearcats go to 11-8 on the year. 

GAME #1 — LANDER 6, PRESBYTERIAN 3

Lander opened the game with a three run homer by sophomore Collen Leggieri (Greenwood, S.C.) scoring Summer Kimmel (Goose Creek, S.C.) and Melissa Ryals (Myrtle Beach, S.C.).

In the top of the second, Ashlea Burdette (Iva, S.C.) scored on an error by Presbyterian to give Lander a 4-0 lead.

The Blue Hose scored in the bottom of the fourth with second baseman Rachel Bailey (Howard, OH) scoring on a single by centerfielder Amanda Teal (Chapin, S.C.).

PC cut the lead to 4-3 in the bottom of the fifth after a Haley Brooks (Tifton, Ga.) homerun and a base hit by Bailey to score Jessica Kilpatrick (Hendersonville, NC).

The Bearcats would get some insurance runs in the top of the sixth. Alcira Adriatico (Fort Orange, Fl.) hit a pinch hit two run homer to seal the game at 6-3.

Freshman pitcher Megan Wheelus (Florence, S.C.) picked only her second loss of the season while senior pitcher Sarah Permenter (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) picked up her sixth win of the season.

GAME #2 — PRESBYTERIAN 3, LANDER 1

In the second game, Presbyterian received solid pitching from both Brooke Norris (Anderson, S.C.) and Olivia Hazel (Chesapeake, MD) to win 3-1. The two only one run on five hits while Norris picked up her fourth victory of the season. 

PC scored three runs in the bottom of the second on three hits and one error. Senior Amanda Teal (Chapin, S.C.) led the inning off with a double and scored when Lander's Ashlea Burdette walked the bases loaded to give PC a 1-0 lead. PC's first baseman Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, Fl) and leftfielder Katie Fite (Conway, S.C.) would also score for a 3-0 lead. 

The Bearcats rallied for one run in the top of the fourth with Alcira Adriatico driving in Melissa Ryals (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) but could not overcome the 3-1 deficit. 

At the plate, Lander was led by Keri Davis (Norway, S.C.) who went 2-3 while Presbyterian was led by Teal who went 2-3 with a run scored. 

Ashlea Burdette picked up the loss for the Bearcats while Brooke Norris picked up the victory. Olivia Hazel also picked up her first save of the season. 

Presbyterian returns to action this Saturday at home against Goldey-Beacom for a doubleheader starting at 12:00 p.m while Lander returns to action Thursday, March 11 against Augusta State University in Augusta, Ga.
