PRESBYTERIAN SOFTBALL SWEEPS LANDER GREENWOOD,
S.C.----The
Presbyterian softball team scored 23 runs in two games
Thursday afternoon as the Blue Hose swept a non-conference
doubleheader at Lander, 12-8 and 11-5.
In the first game, Sarah Permenter (2-1) took the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) in two-tenths of an inning in relief of Sheena Mason. Megan Wheelus (1-0) earned the win, striking out one and allowing just two hits in 2.2 innings pitched. The Blue Hose, which rallied for six runs in the seventh inning to overcome an 8-6 deficit, outhit Lander, 17-11. PC's Jessica Peterka went 2-for-3 with one homerun and two RBI and Lauren Hixson went 1-for-1 with one double and two RBI. Olivia Gordon went 3-for-5 with two RBI and Amanda Teal went 3-for-4. Lander's Jennifer Dickert went 1-for-4 with one homerun, while Melissa Royals (1-for-3, one RBI) and Sydney Sneed (2-for-4, three RBI) both doubled. Keri Davis went 3-for-3 with two RBI. Down 8-6 going into the seventh, Presbyterian's Rachel Bailey, Hixson, and Gordon had RBI hits to lead the come-from-behind victory. Box
Score In the second game, Samantha Slater (1-0) claimed the win, striking out two, walking three and allowing five unearned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings. Lander's Ashlea Burdette (2-1) took the loss, striking out three, walking one and allowing eight runs (seven earned) on 11 hits in 4.1 innings. PC's Teal went 2-for-3 with one homerun and three RBI, while teammates Bailey (2-for-5), Jamie Vining (2-for-4) and Whitney Hannon (2-for-4, one RBI) all doubled. Peterka went 2-for-4 with three RBI and Tina Deveaux 2-for-4 with one RBI. Lander's
Keri Davis went 1-for-4 with one homerun and three RBI.
