SOFTBALL SWEEPS NORTH GREENVILLE CLINTON, S.C.-- Freshman pitcher Megan Wheelus (Florence, SC) pitched a two-hitter and shutout the Lady Crusaders as Presbyterian won game one of the doubleheader 9-0. In game two, both Rachel Bailey (Howard, OH) and Olivia Gordan (Boothwyn, PA) hit three run homers to seal the victory 15-5 in game two. Game #1 - Presbyterian 9, North Greenville 0
In the third inning, first baseman Peterka hit a homerun and leftfielder Whitney Hannon (Greer, SC) doubled to left center to score two runs. PC would close out the third inning by scoring five runs on seven hits to take a 9-0 lead going into the top of the fourth. Wheelus would hold North Greenville scoreless and the game was called after five innings of play. Leftfielder Amanda Carvajal led Presbyterian with three hits by going 3 for 3. Also second baseman Bailey (2-3) had two hits and four RBI. For the Lady Crusaders, first baseman Ashley Moore (Moore, SC) and the shortstop Shannon Hartz (Goose Creek, SC) had the only two hits. Wheelus struck out nine batters and picked up the victory for the Lady Blue Hose while sophomore Kaley Vinson (Goose Creek, SC) picked up the loss for the Crusaders. Game #2 - Presbyterian 15, North Greenville 3
In the top of the second, North Greenville would tie the game at two a piece. Both Laura MacMahan (Black Mountain, NC) and Moore scored in the inning to tie the game. Presbyterian scored five runs in the bottom of the second to take a 7-2 lead going into the top of the third. North Greenville would gain a run back as Hartz singled and was driven in by Angela Foster (Flowery Branch, Ga). In the bottom of the third, PC would score seven runs to seal the victory. Both Bailey and Gordon hit three run homers in the inning. Leading the Lady Blue Hose in game two were Teal (3-3) with four RBI's, Bailey (2-4) with five RBI's, and Vining (3-3). Freshman Jessica Flanagan (Piedmont, SC) picked the win in game two while Jennifer Dukes (Goose Creek, SC) picked up the loss. Presbyterian hosts Mountain State University for a doubleheader tomorrow afternoon at 1 pm while North Greenville travels to Demorest, GA to play Piedmont College on Tuesday, February 24. |
