WISMER, WARD, & CONNER SIGN WITH BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL

CLINTON, S.C. — Lindsay Wismer, Anne Ward, and Katie Connor have signed to play softball at Presbyterian College announced today by head coach Jeff Nickerson.

Wismer, a 5-4 outfielder from Sarasota, Fla., currently plays for Riverview High School and head coach Perry Patella. Wismer, a four-year letterwinner, his hitting .304 at the plate for her high school team and earned the team’s Coach’s Award as a senior. She has played for the No Fear Traveling Softball team for the last seven years and this past summer hit .348 at the plate.

“Lindsay is a speedy outfielder with great range,” said Nickerson. “She is a lefty slapper that will increase our overall team speed. Will compete for playing time in the outfield.”

Ward, a 5-3 infielder from Cumming, Ga., currently plays for North Forsyth High School and head coach Jim Cahill. An All-Area and all-county performer, Ward is hitting .378 at the plate with 17 stolen bases and a .938 fielding percentage. In addition, she was named to the Forsyth County All-Stars and was selected as a Wendy’s Heisman Award nominee.

“A versatile infielder with good range and a strong arm,” said Nickerson. “She is a good contact hitter and a great baserunner. She will challenge for a starting role next year in the infield.”

Connor, a 5-7 third baseman from Moore, S.C., currently plays for Byrnes High School and head coach Debbie Holcombe. Connor, a Blue Hose walk-on, earned all-region honors in 2003 while leading her team to the 2003 region championship and all-area team selection. During the summer she will play for the Florence Flames 18&under team. She has a career high school batting average of .294 with 42 RBI, 20 doubles, and six triples to her credit. She is a four-year letterwinner at Byrnes and played on two region championship teams (2002 & 2003).

“ She has a quick first step on defense and will provide us with a solid backup player in the infield,” said Nickerson.

“These three student-athletes fit well with Presbyterian College and our softball program,” said Nickerson. “They will increase our team speed and provide us with some quality athletes. They are prepared to work hard which will allow our team to excel.”

The Lady Blue Hose are coming off a their best campaign in the history of the program this spring. PC posted a program-record 48 wins against 13 losses and finished tied for second in the South Atlantic Conference regular season (9-5). The team won their first Food Lion/SAC Tournament title in April and earned the program’s first NCAA Tournament bid. The team advanced to the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Region Championship game where they lost to top seed and No. 1 team in the country Kennesaw State University.
