PC’S SAMANTHA SLATER NAMED 2004 FOOD LION/SAC SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT MOST VALUABLE PLAYER
Hixson, Peterka, & Teal named to SAC All-Tourney Team

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Presbyterian College pitcher Samantha Slater, who won three games on the mound for the Lady Blue Hose during the Food Lion South Atlantic Conference softball tournament, including the championship game, was voted the tournament's Most Valuable Player.

Slater went 3-0 in three starts and four appearances during the tournament. She allowed just two earned runs in 24 innings.

Also making the All-Tournament team from the champion Presbyterian College squad were designated hitter Jessica Peterka; outfielder Amanda Teal and first baseman Lauren Hixson. Hixson had a home run in Presbyterian’s 2-0 win over Carson-Newman in the championship game. Peterka batted .500 for the tournament, while Teal had five RBI for the tournament.

Runner-up Carson-Newman had three representatives on the All-Tournament team: pitcher Megan Elliott, second baseman Haley Allen and pitcher/designated hitter Lyndsi Craig. Elliott was 3-0 with 14 strikeouts on the mound. Allen batted .467, while Craig hit .333 at the plate and had a 1.7 ERA with six strikeouts on the mound.

The other four members of the All-Tournament team came from Wingate. Stephanie White, the SAC's softball Player of the Year, had nine hits to lead all players in the tournament, including a grand slam against Catawba. Joining White on the All-Tournament team were Sarah Carleton, who scored eight runs during the tournament; pitcher Brittney Taylor and designated hitter Carrie Rountree.
