PRESBYTERIAN’S SLATER NAMED SOUTH ATLANTIC CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Presbyterian College’s Samantha Slater was named this week’s South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week selections announced today.

Slater, a sophomore right-hander pitcher from Westerville, OH (Westerville HS), helped lead the Blue Hose to a 3-1 mark this past week after splitting games with Carson-Newman College and sweeping a doubleheader from Mars Hill College. PC moved into a three-way tie for second place after last week’s results in the South Atlantic Conference regular season.

On  the week, she posted a 2-0 mark on the mound with a 0.00 ERA in 13.0 innings of work. Slater gave up only seven total hits in her two starts and only one extra base hit while not allowing a walk and striking out six batters. For the season, Slater has a10-2 record on the mound with a 1.46 ERA in 115.0 innings of work.

In PC’s 4-0 win over Carson-Newman College on the road, she pitched a complete game shutout, allowing four hits and striking out five Lady Eagle batters. In PC’s 6-0 victory over Mars Hill College at home, she pitched six solid innings of shutout ball allowing three hits while striking out two batters and did not allow an extra base hit.

The South Atlantic Conference players of the week are determined by a vote of the league’s eight Sports Information Directors.
