BLUE HOSE SOFTBALL SWEEPS
WARRIORS CLINTON, S.C. --Presbyterian College Lady Blue Hose took two from games from Southern Wesleyan University today at the PC Softball Complex. Presbyterian held on to win game one 3-1 with freshman pitcher Megan Wheelus (Florence, S.C.) and sophomore pitcher Samantha Slater (Westerville, OH) combining for a four-hitter. In game two, the Blue Hose out hit the Warriors 12 to 5 and won 10-2. Presbyterian improves to 19-2 on the season while Southern Wesleyan falls to 7-12 on the year. GAME #1 — PRESBYTERIAN 3, SOUTHERN WESLEYAN 1 The Warriors took the early 1-0 lead with senior Natalie Roebuck (Decatur, GA) hitting a base hit to drive in junior Holly Kneisley (Irondale, Ala). However, PC tied the game at 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning. Senior Amanda Teal (Chapin, S.C.) tripled to drive in Rachel Bailey's (Howard, OH) to tie the game. In the bottom of the second, senior right fielder Nickie Templeton (Clinton, S.C.) hit her first homerun of the season to take the lead at 2-1. Presbyterian would score again in the bottom of the third on Jamie Vining's (Fayetteville, GA) doubled that scored freshman catcher Olivia Gordon (Boothwyn, PA) for a 3-1 lead. The Blue Hose would need no more runs as both Wheelus and Slater would hold the Warriors to only four hits. Wheelus pitched three innings allowing only two hits while striking out two and Slater pitched four innings allowing only two hits while striking out two as well. Junior Ashlee Frazier (Meridian, MS) picked up the loss for the warriors while Wheelus picked up her fourth victory of the season. GAME #2 — PRESBYTERIAN 10, SOUTHERN WESLEYAN 2 In the second game, Presbyterian used a four run first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Both Teal and sophomore Haley Brooks (Tifton, GA) had doubles in the inning. PC's Vining connected on a two run homerun in the bottom of the second to up the lead to 6-0. Freshman Trish Swartz (Arden, NC) then doubled in Teal for a 7-0 lead. In the third, Southern Wesleyan's Kneisley singled and was batted in on a double by sophomore Gina Gossett (Chesnee, S.C.) to make the score 7-1. Roebuck then doubled in Gossett for the warriors second run. The Blue Hose would go on to score three more runs to win 10-2. Senior Brooke Norris (Anderson, S.C.) would pick up her sixth victory of the season while freshman Rachel Blount (Powdersville, S.C.) would pick up the loss. Presbyterian returns to action this weekend for the Francis Marion University Patriot Tournament (March 12-14). |
