LADY BLUE HOSE SPLIT WITH LADY BULLDOGS
 IN SOFTBALL LEAGUE ACTION 

CLINTON, S.C. -- Presbyterian College Softball team split with Wingate University Thursday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex. The Lady Blue Hose held on to win game one 8-5 while the Lady Bulldogs scored seven early runs to prevail 8-2 over PC. 

Presbyterian College goes to 33-8 overall and 2-2 in South Atlantic Conference play while Wingate University goes to 22-10 overall and 3-1 in SAC play. 

Game 1- Presbyterian 8, Wingate 5

The Bulldogs took the early lead in the second inning with Grace Cunningham (Camden, SC) hitting a base hit to score Cameron Langston (Goldsboro, NC). However, in the bottom half of the inning PC’s sophomore leftfielder Katie Fite (Conway, SC) connected on a two run homerun  to put the Blue Hose ahead 2-1.

Wingate’s senior centerfielder Stephanie White (Eatonton, GA) scored in the third inning to tie the game at 2-2. The Bulldogs left the bases loaded that inning as PC’s freshman pitcher Megan Wheelus (Florence, SC) came in and got two groundouts to finish the inning.

In the bottom of the third, Presbyterian broke the game open by scoring five runs to go ahead 7-2. The Blue Hose scored five runs on three hits and one error. Senior Jamie Vining (Fayetteville, GA) singled to drive in freshman Rachel Bailey (Howard, OH) to start the rally and senior Nickie Templeton (Clinton, SC) scored on a groundout to finish the rally.

The Bulldogs cut the lead to 7-3 in the sixth with Sarah Carleton (Powhatan, VA) slapping a single to scored Carey Bumgardner (Mechanicsville, VA). The Blue Hose would get that run back with Fite hitting her second homerun of the game to put PC ahead 8-3.

In the top of the seventh, Wingate's White doubled to score two runs but the rally fell short as the Blue Hose prevailed 8-5. 

Leading the Blue Hose at the plate was Fite who went two for three with two homeruns and four RBI. Leading Wingate at the plate was White who went four for five with two RBI and a run scored. 

PC's Wheelus picked up tenth victory of the season as Wingate's Layne Grout (Advance, NC) picked up only her fifth loss of the year.

Game 2- Wingate 8, Presbyterian 2

In game two, Wingate used an seven run second inning to defeat Presbyterian 8-2. The Lady Bulldogs scored the seven runs on four hits and three errors in the top of the second. The inning was highlighted by Stephanie White's bases clearing double to left center that scored Bumgardner, Joy Henry (Virginia Beach, VA), and Megan McPhail (Fayetteville, NC). 

In the bottom of the third, PC was able to get a run across on Vining's sacrifice fly to center that scored third baseman Haley Brooks (Tifton, GA). 

Sophomore Sarah Carleton singled and drove White for one run in the top of the sixth for Wingate to go ahead 8-1. 

Presbyterian only rallied for one run in the bottom of the seventh with junior catcher Tina Deveaux (Mauldin, SC) hitting a single up the middle to score Templeton. Wingate's Brittany Taylor (Lexington, NC) pitched a terrific game holding the Blue Hose to only two runs on four hits.

Wingate's Taylor picked up her fourth victory of the year while PC's Jessica Flanagan (Piedmont, SC) picked up only her second loss of the season. 
                            
Presbyterian returns to action this Saturday against SAC foe Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C. starting at 1:30 p.m. Wingate returns to action this Saturday against SAC opponent Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, TN. with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
