BLUE HOSE SPLITS PAIR WITH LADY INDIANS

CLINTON, S.C. – Catawba College scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to earn a doubleheader split with Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference softball action Thursday afternoon at the PC Softball Complex. The Blue Hose won the first game 4-2.

PC (23-15, 1-1 SAC) held a 5-2 lead in the nightcap heading into the top of the sixth inning, when Catawba (18-18, 1-1) began chipping away at the lead. Stacey Handy (Advance, NC) singled in a run to pull the Lady Indians within two and an RBI groundout by Jacqueline White (Mt. Ulla, NC) made it a one-run game.

PC threatened to extend the lead in the bottom of the sixth, but a runner was stranded at second base.

In the bottom of the seventh, Liz Corbett (Severn, MD) led off with a double and scored on a two-out fielding error.

Catawba won it in the top of the eighth when Jessica Rivera (Key West, FL) doubled in two runs with two outs.

Lindsey Ettinger (Pasadena, MD) picked up the win for the Lady Indians, throwing eight innings and allowing five runs on nine hits.

Handy led Catawba with three hits, while Rivera, Corbett, and Ashlee Rhoades (China Grove, NC) all finished with two. Kellyn Henderson (Simpsonville, SC) and Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, FL) led PC with two hits.

In the first game, PC scored three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two-run homerun by Tina Deveaux (Simpsonville, SC) to take a 4-2 victory.

Jessica Flanagan (Piedmont, SC) picked up the win on the mound, while Megan Wheelus (Florence, SC) picked up the save.

Henderson and Deveaux led the Blue Hose with two hits. No Catawba player had more than one hit.

PC will be back in action next Wednesday as they host Wingate University in a 2:00 pm doubleheader. Catawba will return home to take on Limestone College at 2:00 pm on Monday.
