BLUE HOSE ROLL PAST NORTH GREENVILLE

CLINTON, S.C. – The # 21-ranked Presbyterian College softball team easily swept a doubleheader from North Greenville College Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 10-1 before winning the second game 16-7.

In the first game, PC (8-2) jumped out to a five run lead after one inning and never looked back in taking the run-rule shortened game.

Tina Deveaux (Simpsonville, SC) had three hits to lead the PC 11 hit attack. Shannon Vining (Fayetteville, GA), Whitney Hannon (Greer, SC), and Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, FL) all finished with two hits.

Jean Smith (Tampa, FL) picked up the victory on the mound for the Blue Hose, allowing only one hit, a homerun in the third, and striking out six.

In the nightcap, PC picked up right where they left off as Rachel Bailey (Howard, OH) led off with a homerun and the Blue Hose broke the game open with seven runs in the second and five more in third to take a commanding 13-1 lead.

North Greenville (0-8) battled back with six runs in the top of the fourth to pull within six, but the Blue Hose added three more in the bottom of the inning and then held the Crusaders in the top of the fifth to preserve the win.

Bailey finished the game 4-for-4 with three RBI’s and four runs scored, Hannon had three hits and five RBI’s, and Allison Tebbe (Alpharetta, GA) also finished with three hits.

Olivia Hazel (Chesapeake City, MD) picked up the win on the mound, allowing four earned runs and ten hits over three and two-thirds innings.

PC will be back in action Monday afternoon as they host Erskine College in a 2 pm doubleheader.
