Lady Blue Hose Take Two From Lander To Stay Undefeated

CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian took two from Lander Monday afternoon to improve their record to 4-0 on the young season. The Lady Blue Hose opened up the two-game set with an 11-3 victory that was called after six innings due to the eight run lead.  PC then rode the momentum into the second game to claim a 3-1 victory and their second consecutive doubleheader sweep.

Presbyterian will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 17 as they play host to Montreat in a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m.

Game 1 - Presbyterian 11, Lander 3

Lander earned the first run in the top of the first stanza when designated hitter Brittany Wallace drove in Ashlea Burdette with a single to center field.  However, the Lady Blue Hose quickly answered with two runs of their own in the second inning.

After a base hit by Jessica Peterka, Lauren Deal was called on to pinch run and promptly swiped second base with the throw down glancing off her leg and into center field.  Deal reached third on the throwing error and would score the first PC run after Paige Cassady’s base hit.

Later in the inning Jenny Box singled to drive in Ashley Ford from second and give PC the lead.

Presbyterian would tack on nine more runs in the final three innings of play off of Lander starter Austin Murray who went the distance for the Bearcats.

PC finished the game with 10 different players tallying a hit and were led by Rachel Bailey’s four RBIs.  Brittany Wallace knocked in three RBIs for Lander on two base hits.

Freshman Mary Gordon picked up her second win of the season after going all six innings and striking out seven.

Game 2 – Presbyterian 3, Lander 1

Freshman Paige Cassady blasted a two-run home run with two outs in the bottom of the sixth inning to score PC’s go-ahead runs in game two.

Laura Tate led off the inning with a double to left field and then moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rachel Bailey.

Erin Stewart scored PC’s first run of the game in the third inning on a grounder to shortstop by Kellyn Henderson.  The run was credited to Lander starter Brittany Wallace, who was replaced by Ashlea Burdette after Stewart’s single.

Megan Lowe led the Bearcats with two of their three hits including a solo home run in the fourth inning.

Presbyterian’s Cassady concluded the game not only having a strong day at the dish but in the circle as well, as she claimed her second win of the season allowing only one run over six innings. She struck out nine Lander batters in game two.

Megan Wheelus would enter in the seventh inning to retire the Bearcats in order and garner her second save of the season.

Lander’s Ashlea Burdette suffered the loss allowing two runs in four innings of relief.
