Lady
Blue Hose Take Two From Lander To Stay Undefeated
CLINTON,
SC – Presbyterian took two from Lander Monday afternoon to
improve their record to 4-0 on the young season. The Lady
Blue Hose opened up the two-game set with an 11-3 victory
that was called after six innings due to the eight run
lead. PC then rode the momentum into the second game to
claim a 3-1 victory and their second consecutive
doubleheader sweep.
Presbyterian will be back in action on Saturday, Feb. 17 as
they play host to Montreat in a doubleheader beginning at 1
p.m.
Game 1 - Presbyterian 11,
Lander 3
Lander
earned the first run in the top of the first stanza when
designated hitter Brittany Wallace drove in Ashlea Burdette
with a single to center field. However, the Lady Blue Hose
quickly answered with two runs of their own in the second
inning.
After a
base hit by Jessica Peterka, Lauren Deal was called on to
pinch run and promptly swiped second base with the throw
down glancing off her leg and into center field. Deal
reached third on the throwing error and would score the
first PC run after Paige Cassady’s base hit.
Later in
the inning Jenny Box singled to drive in Ashley Ford from
second and give PC the lead.
Presbyterian would tack on nine more runs in the final three
innings of play off of Lander starter Austin Murray who went
the distance for the Bearcats.
PC
finished the game with 10 different players tallying a hit
and were led by Rachel Bailey’s four RBIs. Brittany Wallace
knocked in three RBIs for Lander on two base hits.
Freshman
Mary Gordon picked up her second win of the season after
going all six innings and striking out seven.
Game 2 – Presbyterian 3,
Lander 1
Freshman
Paige Cassady blasted a two-run home run with two outs in
the bottom of the sixth inning to score PC’s go-ahead runs
in game two.
Laura
Tate led off the inning with a double to left field and then
moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Rachel Bailey.
Erin
Stewart scored PC’s first run of the game in the third
inning on a grounder to shortstop by Kellyn Henderson. The
run was credited to Lander starter Brittany Wallace, who was
replaced by Ashlea Burdette after Stewart’s single.
Megan
Lowe led the Bearcats with two of their three hits including
a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Presbyterian’s Cassady concluded the game not only having a
strong day at the dish but in the circle as well, as she
claimed her second win of the season allowing only one run
over six innings. She struck out nine Lander batters in game
two.
Megan
Wheelus would enter in the seventh inning to retire the
Bearcats in order and garner her second save of the season.
Lander’s
Ashlea Burdette suffered the loss allowing two runs in four
innings of relief.
