PC Splits With Augusta State In Softball
AUGUSTA, Ga. – Presbyterian College split a
softball doubleheader with the Augusta State on Wednesday,
March 14, at Jaguar Field. ASU won the first game by a score
of 3-2 and PC won the second game, 5-0.
ASU is now 15-11 overall and 2-4 in the Peach Belt
Conference, while the Blue Hose improve to 18-5 on the year.
The Jags captured the win in the first game, jumping out
on top in the first when the leadoff hitter Anna Tedder got
a walk and Jessica Matta layed down a sac-bunt, moving
Tedder to third.
Junior Ashley Roberts hit to the short stop pulling the
run in, but getting out at first.
PC bounced back in the fourth when senior first baseman
Jessica Peterka hit a two-run homer to take the lead, 2-1.
ASU then stole it back in the bottom of the sixth when
Roberts hit her first triple of the year to right field,
scoring two runs. The Blue Hose went scoreless in the
seventh, making the final score 3-2.
Amy Dumas pitched the full seven innings for the Jags,
striking out 14, and only allowing four hits and two runs.
She improved to 7-5 on the season. Freshman Mary Gordon took
the loss for the Blue Hose and dropped to 10-2.
In the second game, PC scored all their five runs in the
second and third innings. Second baseman Jenny Box hit a
double to left center to score two runs in the second and
Presbyterian put another three runs across in the third. ASU
was not able to put any hits together, posting the final
score 5-0.
Paige Cassady (8-3) received the win for the Blue Hose
pitching a one hitter to the Jags, while Danielle Metzger
(3-4) got the loss pitching two and 1/3 innings before being
relieved by Dumas.
PC next travels to Charleston Southern University to take
on the Buccaneers in a twinbill at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar.
