PC Drops Both Games Of Conference Twinbill To
Carson-Newman
CLINTON, S.C. – Carson-Newman stayed atop the South
Atlantic Coast Conference standings by taking two games from
the Lady Blue Hose on Tuesday afternoon at the PC Softball
Complex. Presbyterian fell 4-0 in the first game and
succumbed to a Carson-Newman rally in the top of the seventh
inning to lose game two, 10-4.
With the losses PC drops to 24-11 on the year and 4-4 in the
league while the Lady Eagles go to 28-8 overall and 6-2 in
the SAC.
The Lady Blue Hose will look to rebound on Friday, April 6
as they travel to Mars Hill for another conference
doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Game 1
C-N’s Stephanie Templeton limited PC batters to only three
hits in the first game en route to a complete game shutout.
The Lady Eagles broke a scoreless tie with two runs in the
fourth inning off of a two-run single by first baseman Sarah
Little.
C-N added single runs in the fifth and seventh to pad the
lead.
PC starter Paige Cassady (12-6) was credited with the loss
after going seven full innings for the Blue Hose. Cassady
scattered five hits and allowed four runs (three earned)
while striking out nine in the process.
Templeton won her 17th game of the season for the Lady
Eagles, fanning eight PC batters against only one walk.
Game 2
The Lady Blue Hose broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in their
half of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead in game two.
With two outs Laura Tate doubled down the left field line to
plate Erin Stewart from second base. The next at-bat Mary
Gordon singled back up the middle to score Tate from second
and Michelle Ramsden from third.
Gordon tied the game in the third inning on a solo shot to
left center. The dinger was Gordon’s second home run of the
season.
PC starting pitcher Mary Gordon held the Lady Eagles at bay
through six innings staked to the 4-1 lead.
However, C-N stormed back with a furious nine run seventh
inning to claim the win. The lady eagles totaled six hits in
the stanza, highlighted by a three-run triple by Hillary
Hammond to left center field.
Paige Cassady was tagged with her second loss of the day in
relief of Gordon in the seventh. Cassady surrendered six
runs, none of which were earned in 2/3 of an inning.
Jessie Armstrong (11-4) garnered the victory for C-N,
pitching the final two innings in relief of Stephanie
Templeton, who started both games for the Eagles.
