                    PC Splits SAC Doubleheader With Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – Presbyterian split a conference twinbill with Mars Hill on Friday afternoon at Ponder Park. The Lions won the first game 4-3 in extra innings and then PC won the nightcap, 4-0.

MHC is now 30-18 overall and 4-6 in the SAC while PC took their record to 25-12 on the season and 5-5 in the league.

Game One

Christa Fullwood (Wilmington, NC) scored on a PC error in the second inning to give MHC a 1-0 lead. PC then went ahead 2-1 in the fourth inning when Erin Stewart (Marion, SC) scored on a sacrifice fly from Mary Gordon (Vernon, CT) and Paige Cassady scored on a Lion error.

Tiara Mitchell (North Charleston, SC) hit a solo homer to right field to tie the contest at 2-all in the sixth frame. In the top of the eighth inning PC pushed a run across when Cassady singled to plate Megan Wheelus (Florence, SC). MHC's defense would not allow the Blue Hose another run.

In the Lions' last at-bat, Rebekah Huff (Mars Hill, NC) scored the game-winning run from third base on a passed ball. After the international tie breaker rule put Tiffany Farthing (Kure Beach, NC) on second base, she was moved to third when Huff reached on a PC error. Farthing then scored on another PC error and Huff advanced to third base to set up the game-winning score.

Farthing threw all eight innings scattering six hits and allowing no earned runs to pick up the win (13-7). Mitchell led MHC at the plate going 1-for-3 with the solo homerun.

Cassady took the loss (12-7) for PC on the mound. She allowed only one earned run and fanned seven Lions.

Kellyn Henderson (Simpsonville, SC) led PC offensively, going 2-for-4 at the dish.

Game Two

After two scoreless innings, PC took a three-run lead in the third inning on two hits and two Lion errors. Ashley Ford (Marietta, GA) had a two-RBI double to highlight the inning.

PC added their fourth and final run in the fourth inning when Henderson doubled to drive in Cassady.

Gordon threw a complete game shutout allowing MHC just three hits to take her season mark to a team-leading 13-4. Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, FL) and Ford each had two hits in the win.

Paige Brantley (Raleigh, NC) took the loss (6-8) for MHC on the mound. Huff had two of the team's three hits in the loss.

PC will next host North Greenville University at 1 p.m. on Monday, April 9.
