PC Takes Two From NGU
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian College
swept a non-conference softball twinbill on Monday afternoon
against North Greenville University at the PC Softball
Complex. The Lady Blue Hose claimed game one by the score of
11-6 and then downed the Lady Crusaders 8-3 in game two.
Presbyterian has won three consecutive
games and is now 27-12 on the season, while North Greenville
falls to 9-31 on the 2007 campaign.
The North Greenville doubleheader
concluded PC’s non-conference slate in 2007. The Lady Blue
Hose end their regular season this week beginning with a
trip to rival Newberry at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11.
Presbyterian then ends the regular
season at home with a doubleheader against Tusculum at 1
p.m. on Saturday, April 14 at the PC Softball Complex.
It will be senior day for PC’s four
seniors.
Game One
The Lady Blue Hose had four players
finish with multiple RBIs in the 11-6 victory over North
Greenville in the first game.
Catcher Laura Tate (Spartanburg, S.C.)
led the way for PC, going a perfect 3-for-3 in the game with
two RBIs. Michelle Ramsden (Brooks, Ga.) was 2-for-4 with
two RBI, while Ashley Ford (Marietta, Ga.) was 2-for-3 with
two RBIs of her own.
Paige Cassady (Orlando, Fla.) had only
one hit in the contest, but she did manage to knock in two
runs.
Presbyterian started off the game by
scoring five runs in the first inning. The Lady Blue Hose
batted around in the inning with Kellyn Henderson
(Simpsonville, S.C.) beginning things on the afternoon for
PC with a single through the left side and then fouling out
to the third baseman to end the inning.
Presbyterian would not score in the
next inning, but tallied at least a run in their final four
chances at-bat to secure the victory.
Tia Lafrieniere led NGU in the game
offensively, going 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
Cassady (13-7) was strong in the circle
for the Lady Blue Hose in the win, striking out eight Lady
Crusaders.
Krista Yeoman (0-1) lost her first game
of the season for North Greenville.
Game Two
Presbyterian started off the second
game exactly the same way they commenced the first by
scoring six runs in the first two stanzas.
The Lady Blue Hose acquired three runs
in the first inning. Ford obtained PC’s first two runs when
she homered to left center field to bring in Henderson, who
had once again started a game with a single for the Lady
Blue Hose.
Two batters later, Tate hit a dinger to
left field to give PC a 3-0 advantage.
Henderson brought in two runs of her
own in the bottom of the second inning when she doubled to
left centerfield to bring in Jenny Box (Fruitland Park,
Fla.) and Ramsden.
A little while later Jessica Peterka
(Sarasota, Fla.) sacrificed to right field to bring in
Henderson and give PC a commanding 6-0 advantage.
Overall in game two, Henderson
concluded things 3-for-4 from the plate with two RBIs and
three runs scored.
The 6-0 lead would prove to be all that
PC starting pitcher Mary Gordon (Vernon, Conn.) would need
as she pitched her second consecutive complete game victory,
fanning seven North Greenville batters in the process.
Gordon (14-4) now has a team-leading 14
wins on the 2007 campaign.
Ashley Warlick took the loss from the
circle for NGU, lasting just 1.1 innings for the Lady
Crusaders and giving up six earned runs.
