PC Softball Signs Three Student-Athletes
CLINTON, S.C. – Presbyterian
head softball coach Dave Majeski signed the first three
student-athletes in his tenure to National Letters of Intent
recently. Identical twins Kayla and Krysten Handy will enter
the program from Gainesville, Fla., while Taylor Staten
becomes Majeski’s first in-state signing out of Belvedere,
S.C.
“I could not be happier with the
three players that we have signed during the early period,”
mused Majeski. “They will be an integral part of our
transition to NCAA Divison I. I can categorically say that
the future just became a little brighter for Blue Hose
softball.”
Kayla Handy comes to the Blue Hose
softball program as a shortstop out of Bucholz High School
in Gainesville, Fla. An all-Florida and all-district
selection in 2006, Kayla picked up her high school’s
academic award in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
A left-handed slapper type hitter,
Kayla batted .345 last year for her high school team. A
three-sport athlete, Kayla is also a member of the soccer
and weightlifting teams at Bucholz.
Krysten Handy like her twin sister is
an infielder. Krysten is a two-time (2005 and 2006)
all-Florida softball player and a three-time (2004, 2005
and 2006) all-district selection. Academically, Krysten is a
member of the national honor society, Mu Alpha Theta.
Krysten plays for the Gainesville
Gold in the summer, acquiring a batting average of .382 last
season.
Krysten is also a three-sport athlete
for Bucholz, suiting up for both the soccer and the
weightlifting teams.
Staten comes to the Lady Blue Hose
softball program out of North Augusta High School where she
was a 4-A all-state team member in the 2006 season. An
infielder, Staten has also been garnered all-region plaudits
in 2003, 2005 and 2006.
Staten has played varsity softball
for North Augusta for six years and over the past two years
has mustered 18 doubles, four triples and four home runs,
while also batting at a .380 clip.
This summer Staten will represent the
Palmetto state at the Tourney Sport USA National Softball
Championships in Hawaii.
The Lady Blue Hose open their 2007
campaign at 2 p.m. on Feb. 8 against Brevard in Clinton,
S.C.
