Voyles Hired As
Assistant Softball Coach At PC
CLINTON, S.C. –
Presbyterian College head softball coach Dave Majeski
announced the hiring of Annie Voyles as an assistant coach
on Thursday. Voyles comes to the PC softball program from
Florida Atlantic University where she played for softball
pitching legend and hall of famer Joan Joyce and just
recently graduated with an Elementary Education degree.
“We are very
excited about the addition of Coach Voyles to the PC
softball program,” said Majeski. “She is an individual that
loves the game of softball and brings a drive and enthusiasm
for success with her. She is a unique asset because not only
does she bring knowledge of hitting and fielding, but also
of pitching which will help us tremendously as we begin our
process of transitioning into NCAA Division I and the Big
South Conference.”
Voyles started in
20 games in her senior season for the Owls at catcher. The
Bronson, Fla. native was perfect in the field on the season
with a 1.000 fielding percentage.
Voyles had one of
the best games of her career in the final game of her career
in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament championship game on
May 12, 2007 in Murfreesboro, Tenn. against Troy.
The championship
game against Troy was FAU’s third game of the day and the
Owls could not find their bats against Trojans starter
Angela Lopez, who allowed just two hits in the contest.
Both of the hits
off Lopez came off the bat of Voyles, who had the
game-winning RBI with a double to left centerfield in the
third inning that gave FAU a 1-0 lead that they would never
relinquish.
The Sun Belt
tournament championship was the first for Florida Atlantic
as they were playing in the league for the first time in the
2007 season.
Voyles
transferred to FAU after an extremely successful stint at
Florida Gulf Coast. The Conference Freshman of the Year in
2004, Voyles was 13-3 with an ERA of 1.58 in her freshman
campaign with Florida Gulf Coast.
A graduate of
Trenton High School, Voyles was a four-time All-Florida
selection in high school.
She was also
named a Wendy's High School Heisman Nominee and a Marine
Distinguished Athlete of the Year.
