WINGATE, N.C. – Presbyterian College split a South
Atlantic conference doubleheader with Wingate on Wednesday
afternoon at the WU Softball Stadium. The Lady Blue Hose
acquired game one 3-0 and fell in game two 8-2.
Presbyterian is now 23-8 and 3- 1in league play, while
Wingate is 28-13 and 3-1 in conference action.
PC next welcomes league foe Lenoir-Rhyne to the PC softball
complex for a twinbill at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 31.
Game One
Paige Cassady (11-4) once again stole the show for the Lady
Blue Hose from the pitcher’s circle in game one, throwing a
complete game two-hitter. The Orlando, Fla. native struck
out six batters in the process.
Wingate’s Ashley Green pitched all seven innings for the
Bulldogs in the first game, matching strikeouts with Cassady
with six. In the end though it proved to be Green’s seven
hits allowed that would be the difference in the 3-0 PC win.
Reigning SAC Player of the Week Erin Stewart (Marion, S.C.)
continued to exert her newfound power at the plate in game,
hitting a two-run home run.
Jessica Peterka (Sarasota, Fla.) was almost equally as
potent from the dish, going 2—for-3 with PC’s other RBI.
Game Two
Wingate turned things around offensively in the second game,
garnering 10 hits off Lady Blue Hose pitchers Mary Gordon
(Vernon, Conn.) and Megan Wheelus (Florence, S.C.).
Gordon (12-3) pitched the first three innings for PC,
allowing seven hits and six runs of which only three were
earned.
LaRonda McClain led the Bulldogs offensive attack, obtaining
two RBIs and two runs scored in the game, albeit on only one
hit.
Two Bulldogs tallied multiple hits as Hallie Pettigrew and
Heather Winchester finished with two hits each. Winchester
finished the day a perfect 2-for-2 from the plate.
Jenny Box finished the loss for PC with two hits, while
Cassady secured PC’s only RBI of the contest.
