Athletic Administration
Mandy Schuerman
came to PC in August of 2006 and will serve as an assistant
coach for the Presbyterian softball team under new head coach Dave Majeski.
Schuerman a former All-Southeastern Conference selection at
the University of Florida joins the staff as the head
pitching coach. Although her primary responsibility is the
development of the pitching staff, she also assists Majeski
with all other aspects of the program.
“We’re
extremely lucky to hire someone of Mandy’s ability and
experience,” said Majeski. “Her accolades speak for
themselves.
As a
player she was an amazing athlete who greatly succeeded both
in the pitching circle and at the plate. The way she pushed
herself and compete will easily translate itself to the
players she coaches. Our softball will make huge strides
under her direction.
At the
University of Florida Schuerman was a dual threat for the
Gators, seeing time at every position except catcher and
centerfielder. At the plate she ranks second in UF history
in career on base percentage (.399) and walks (116). She
also rates in the top five in Gators’ history in home runs
(15) and doubles (37). Schuerman’s 43 walks in the 2002
season still ranks third best in a single season, while her
.423 on base percentage from that season is fourth best in
program history. She is also top 10 in school history in
runs scored, hits triples and stolen base percentage for a
career and a single season.
In the
circle Schuerman pitched from 2002-05 and ranks third in
most games finished (33). She also ranks seventh in career
strikeouts per game (4.64) which was punctuated when she
averaged 5.69 strikeouts per seven innings during the 2005
season. She is also top 10 in school history in lowest
career ERA (2.74), opponent batting average (.253) and win
percentage (.537). She also ranks top 10 in saves, complete
games and innings pitched.
After
her career with the Gators softball team Schuerman spent a
year teaching and coaching at Madison County High School in
Madison, Fla. She served as the head softball coach and
assistant volleyball coach. She holds a B.A. in Criminology
from Florida.
