Blue Hose Volleyball to Play Lenoir-Rhyne in SAC Quarterfinals

ROCK HILL, S.C. – The Presbyterian College volleyball team earned the seventh seed in the 2006 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference Volleyball Tournament on Nov. 3-4, the league announced Sunday.

The Blue Hose (9-24, 2-12 SAC) will face second-seed Lenoir-Rhyne College (22-12, 12-2 SAC) in a quarterfinal match at 12:30 p.m.  Presbyterian and Mars Hill College tied for seventh place with 2-12 conference records.  The two schools split their regular-season meetings.  Presbyterian earned the tiebreaker by virtue of its regular-season win over fifth-seed Carson-Newman College.

Wingate University, the 2006 regular-season co-champions are the top seed for this week’s 2006 Food Lion SAC Volleyball Tournament. 

The tournament will be held on the campus of Wingate in Wingate, N.C.  Quarterfinal and semifinal matches will be held Friday, Nov. 3.  The championship match is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4.

Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne shared the conference title, each going 12-2 in league play.  The two teams split their two regular-season meetings.  Wingate earned the top seed by sweeping third-seeded Catawba College, while Lenoir-Rhyne split its two games with Catawba.

Wingate (12-2 SAC, 22-7) will face eighth-seeded Mars Hill (2-12 SAC, 11-20) in one of the opening matches Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Wingate’s Cuddy Arena.

Fourth-seeded Tusculum College (9-5 SAC, 21-9) and fifth-seeded Carson-Newman College (5-9 SAC, 15-19) will square off in the other quarterfinal match at 9:30 a.m.

Catawba (11-3 SAC, 17-11) will face sixth-seed Newberry (3-11 SAC, 4-28) in the other quarterfinal match at 12:30 p.m.

The winners of the Wingate/Mars Hill and Tusculum/Carson-Newman matches meet in one semifinal at 4 p.m. on Friday. The Lenoir-Rhyne/Presbyterian winner faces the Catawba/Newberry winner at 7 p.m.

Presbyterian is the defending tournament champion. The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid into the 2006 NCAA Division II Volleyball Championship Tournament.
