Lacy’s 15 Kills Leads Tusculum to SAC Victory over Presbyterian

CLINTON, S.C. – Tusculum College’s junior Vivian Lacy (Lacey, Wash.) registered 15 kills as the Pioneers notched the 3-0 win (30-23, 30-23, 30-26) over the host Blue Hose of Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon.

The Pioneers overcame a 15-7 deficit in the first game as Tusculum used a 12-3 run to take the lead at 19-18 on a Presbyterian attacking error.  Lacy provided five kills in the 30-23 TC win.

Again, the Blue Hose took the lead in the second game, jumping out to a 6-2 advantage, but Tusculum rallied with a 13-1 spurt to gain control of the game.  The Pioneers would build their lead to as many as 12 points on four occasions.  Lacy added another five kills to give TC a 2-0 margin in the match.

Tusculum captured the final game with a 30-26 victory as the Pioneers dominated from the outset.  Presbyterian came within 27-23 but TC recorded the win behind two kills from senior Jessica Horton (Hendersonville, N.C.).

Horton and freshman Gina Coffaro (Cincinnati, Ohio) both finished with nine kills for Tusculum, while junior Stacey Ray (Gilbert, Ariz.) dished out 36 assists and junior Alexis Rowles (Simpsonville, S.C.) collected eight digs.

Junior Lauren Mason (Peachtree City, Ga.) led Presbyterian with 11 kills, while freshman Julie Hollrah (Glenwood, Md.) and senior Danielle Gill (Kings Mountain, N.C.) chipped in nine and eight kills, respectively.

Despite the loss today for the Blue Hose, PC had an impressive week, finishing 2-1 for the week.  Presbyterian hopes to get back in the win column when the Blue Hose host Francis Marion University on Tuesday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m.  Tusculum returns to action on Tuesday as well when the Pioneers travel to Brevard College in Brevard, N.C. for non-conference action at 7 p.m.
