USC Upstate Defeat Blue Hose Volleyball in Four SPARTANBURG, S.C. – USC Upstate answered the test as they defeated Presbyterian 3-1 (32-34, 30-22, 38-36, 30-20) in a hard fought match on both sides to improve their record to 16-6 on the season. The Blue Hose fall to 7-16 on the season with the loss.This match of instate rivals was hard fought on both sides of the court. The Spartans after dropping the first game found a way to rebound and win the next three games to ensure victory, including a very exciting 38-36 win in game three. Leading the Spartans to victory was Mandy Rupert with her sixth straight double-double. Rupert finished the match with a game-high 23 kills, hitting at a .408 clip, and added 10 digs. Rupert was not alone in the victory as Jesicah Ambrisco tallied 14 kills, Morgan Bucciferro and Holly Mauldin chipped in with a combined 49 assists, Rachel Olds had a team-high 15 digs, and Lauren Mrowcyznski and Katie Downey roamed the middle with a combined 15 kills and four and a half blocks. The Blue Hose, short handed with only 7 players, were led by freshman Julie Hollrah (Glenwood, Md.) with a team-high 20 kills and 12 digs, senior Danielle Gill (Kings Mountain, N.C.) added 19 kills and 11 digs, sophomore Rachel Lewis (Bloomington, Ill.) chipped in with 49 assists and 11 digs, and junior Jodi Palmer (Plain City, Ohio) and freshman Sarah Parker Mounce (Columbia, S.C.) combined for 31 digs. The Spartans will be back in action Saturday at 3 p.m. at the Hodge Center, as they take on Armstrong Atlantic State in a crucial Peach Belt Conference match up. Presbyterian returns to action on Friday as the Blue Hose travel to Wingate, N.C. for a South Atlantic Conference game versus Wingate University, who is currently undefeated in SAC play. |
