Wingate Rallies to Defeat Blue Hose 3-1 in SAC Volleyball Action

WINGATE, N.C. – The Wingate University volleyball defeated visiting South Atlantic Conference opponent Presbyterian College in four games on Friday night in Cuddy Arena on the Wingate campus. The Bulldogs won the match 28-30, 30-24, 30-19 and 30-21. The Bulldogs improve to 17-4 overall and 8-0 in the SAC. The Presbyterian Blue Hose fall to 7-17 and 1-7.

Wingate senior middle blocker Rebecca Brezovec (Durham, N.C.) totaled 25 kills, eight blocks and three service aces to pace the Bulldog offense. Brezovec has posted three consecutive 20+ kill matches, giving her 66 kills in the past three contests. Bulldog senior middle blocker Molly Kerns (Bellefontaine, Ohio) tacked on 17 kills in 29 attacks with a team-high .448 hitting percentage.
 
Bulldog junior setter Melissa Deluca (Bahama, N.C.) recorded a double-double, dishing out 51 assists to go along with a career-high tying 19 digs. Junior libero Amanda Siegrist (Wexford, Pa.) had a team-high 23 digs for the Bulldogs, while teammate and senior outside hitter Lauren Alley (Bristol, Tenn.) added 16 digs. Alley had eight kills for the match, including four in her first four attacks in game two.

The Presbyterian offense was led by sophomore middle blocker Justine Lanchester (Downs, Ill.), who had a team-high 15 kills. Blue Hose senior outside hitter Danielle Gill (Kings Mountain, N.C.) added 13 kills for the visitors.

Sophomore setter Rachel Lewis (Bloomington, Ill.) led Presbyterian with 38 assists. Gill was the team leader in digs with 19. Freshman outside hitter Julie Hollrah (Glenwood, Md.) blocked a team-high five attacks and added 18 digs to the Blue Hose defense.

Wingate will host SAC opponent Newberry College at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. Presbyterian will travel to Catawba College to take on the Catawba Indians in Goodman Gym for a 1 p.m. SAC showdown
