HIERS, MAPLE, & STURDIVANT SIGN WITH
LADY BLUE HOSE LACROSSE

CLINTON, S.C. — Sara Hiers, Sally Maple, and Trista Sturdivant have signed to play women’s lacrosse at Presbyterian College announced today by head coach Stephanie Allen.

Hiers, a 5-7 point from West Palm Beach, Fla., plays for John I. Leonard High School and head coach Mike Locke. She also plays lacrosse for the Wellington Recreational League where she earned All-Star honors while being named “Best Defensive Player” of her high school team as a senior. She is also a National Honor Society selection and member of two honor societies at her high school (Aristos, Mu Alpha Theta). She becomes the ninth member of her family to attend Presbyterian College while her father’s uncle is the legendary coach Lonnie S. McMillian who was one of the school’s first coaches and athletic directors.

“I think Sara will transition nicely to the college atmosphere,” said Allen. “She is not only an exciting addition to our lacrosse team, but also to the academic community at PC. Sara is a very coachable player with a truly competitive spirit and we look forward to all that she will bring to our program. We will look for Sara to contribute early in college lacrosse career.”

Maple, a 5-8 attack from Peachtree City, Ga., plays for McIntosh High School and head coach Mike Roache. She scored 53 points her senior year on 35 goals and 18 assists in 13 games while comprising 78% of her team’s offensive production. She was named to the Georgia state All-Star team, while leading the team in scoring each of the last two seasons. Maple also earned US Lacrosse Girls Academic All-American honors.

She lettered in football and varsity basketball and was a two-time all-star selection for her state champion roller hockey team in 2002. Maple is the first female to letter in football at her high school as a placekicker and was a member of the Chattahoochee High School boys varsity inline roller hockey team in 2005 where she was first in the league in saves per game and total saves as a goalie. On May 15, she and fellow Blue Hose signee Kira Stringer of Marietta, Ga. participated in the 4th Annual Georgia High School All-Star Lacrosse Games.

“Sally is a tremendous athlete and we are very excited about her joining PC women’s lacrosse program. She is a very strong and dependable player and I look forward to her continued development. I think Sally will definitely be an impact player on this team and help contribute in building the future of this program.”

Sturdivant, a 5-7 midfielder from Street, Maryland, plays for John Carroll School and head coach John Hughes. Outside of athletics, she is a member of the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra and her school’s French Club.

“Trista’s high school is in one of the most challenging private school leagues in the nation. Trista has a fire in her, a drive. She knows what competition is all about, and next year we are going to look for Trista to really step up and take a lead role on this team in its inaugural varsity season.”

Hiers, Maple, and Sturdivant join Kira Stringer of Marietta, Ga. as members of 2005 women’s lacrosse signing class. The PC women’s lacrosse team will move from club stats to varsity level starting in the 2005-06 academic year.
