BRYANT ROLLS PAST BLUE HOSE, 21-5, WEST PALM BEACH, FLA. – Down at Spring Fling in Florida, the Presbyterian College women’s lacrosse team suffered a 21-5 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs of Bryant University on Monday afternoon. The Bulldogs opened up their 2006 campaign with a 1-0 mark, while the loss drops PC to 0-9 on the year. Bryant jumped out to a 13-5 halftime lead behind three goals apiece from midfielders Shaun Leddy (Sea Girt, N.J.) and Delia Glover (Marston Mills, Mass.). All of the Blue Hose goals came in the first half as freshmen Sally Maple (Peachtree City, Ga.) and Trista Sturdivant (Street, Md.) each tallied two goals. The Bulldogs went on an 8-0 run in the second half as seven different players notched goals for Bryant, including a pair from junior attacker Amanda Gallant (Andover, Mass.). Junior attacker Kelly Sisson (Greenville, S.C.) recorded PC’s other goal. Freshman goalkeeper Kira Stringer (Marietta, Ga.) made three saves in the first half, while junior Ashley Baker (Lancaster, S.C.) registered three as well in the second half. Leddy led the Bulldog offense with four goals, while Gallant ended the day with a hat trick and an assist. Junior defender Ashley Hegerty (Andover, Mass.) added a hat trick as well and junior midfielder Lauren Carlisle (San Diego, Calif.) chipped in two goals and two assists. In goal, senior Samantha Libby (Penacook, N.H.) recorded a pair of saves in the win. The Blue Hose will play their second game at Spring Fling with a contest against St. Michael’s College on Wednesday at 4:30. Bryant will take on the University of New Haven down in West Palm Beach at 9:00 a.m. on Wednesday too. |
