Maple Scores Two Goals In PC Women’s Lacrosse Loss To No. 7 Gannon

CLINTON, S.C. – Krista Schunk scored a game-high six goals and No. 7 Gannon won its first game of the 2007 season in a 20-5 win over Presbyterian College in women’s lacrosse action on Monday afternoon at Old Bailey Stadium.

Schunk (Honeyoye Falls, N.Y.) scored all six goals in the first half of the contest. She was one of four Golden Knights to score two or more goals in the victory.

Gannon’s Colleen Dixon (Lafayette, N.Y.) and Sarah Belen (Oak Hill, Va.) both had three goals, while Taryn Millerd (Shortsville, N.Y.) added two goals.

The Lady Blue Hose were led in the loss by sophomore Sally Maple (Peachtree City, Ga.), who picked up two goals and an assist in the game.

PC’s Brittni Dulaney (Rome, Ga.) also tallied a goal and an assist in the contest.

The Golden Knights never trailed in the game, scoring the first nine goals before Maple could place the Lady Blue Hose on the scoreboard with 15:57 left in the first half.

Alyson Whitley (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Jordan Newberry (Atlanta, Ga.) led the Blue Hose defense in the game with both players causing a game-high two turnovers.

Gannon starting goalkeeper Acacia Cook (Clay, N.Y.) picked up her first victory of the season between the pipes in the game. Cook only played in the first half for the Golden Knights, but she saved six PC shots.

Kira Stringer (Marietta, Ga.) suffered the loss for PC in the cage.

Presbyterian next plays at 3 p.m. on Friday, March 2 against Anne Arundel Community College at Old Bailey Stadium. They will then have one day off before returning to action at 6 p.m. on Sunday, March 4 for a game against No. 5 Limestone at Martin Stadium on the campus of Presbyterian College.
