Strodel’s Clutch Goal Helps PC Women’s Lacrosse Win Second Straight

CLINTON, S.C. – Shannon Strodel scored four goals, but none was bigger than her game-winning goal with just over 30 seconds left in the contest in PC’s 13-12 women’s lacrosse victory over Molloy on Thursday afternoon at Old Bailey Stadium.

Strodel’s goal helped to improve Presbyterian’s record to 2-1 on the season, which matches last year’s total win output.

Strodel was one of three Lady Blue Hose to post two or more goals. Rachel Beaumont placed four goals in the cage on Thursday to end the game with a team-high nine goals on the 2007 campaign.

Berkley Aiken added two of her own in the victory to give PC 10 of their 13 goals from three individuals.

Lori Solitto led Molloy offensively in the loss, scoring a team-high three goals.

Molloy (33), who led 9-8 at halftime, shot eight more times than the Lady Blue Hose (25) in the game.

Freshman Erin McBurnette continued to be strong in the pipes for the Lady Blue Hose in the victory, improving her record to 2-0 on the season in goal for PC. McBurnette gave up all 12 Molloy goals, but made 11 saves.

Carmen Sanfilippo came off the bench at halftime to suffer the loss in net for the Lions. Sanfilippo surrendered five goals in the second half to PC.

Presbyterian next travels to St. Andrews Presbyterian for a 12 p.m. contest on Saturday, Feb. 24. PC will then return home two days later for a home tilt against Gannon.
