Former Newberry College head coach joins PC coaching staff

CLINTON, SC — Joseph “Seph” Hatley has been named Presbyterian College women’s basketball assistant coach announced today by 13th-year head coach Beth Couture.

Hatley replaces former assistant coach Leigh Irwin who resigned earlier this month to return to teaching at the high school level.

Hatley comes to Presbyterian College from instate foe Newberry College where he served as head coach for the women’s basketball team for the last two seasons.

He will be in charge of the program’s recruiting and scouting along with helping Coach Couture in all other aspects of the program.

Prior to his stint at Newberry College, Hatley served as assistant women’s basketball coach at his alma mater, Pfeiffer University from 1996-1999. In addition, he also served as Pfeiffer’s head coach for men’s and women’s cross county, sports information director, and assistant softball coach.

Hatley earned his degree in Sports Management from Pfeiffer University in 1994. Before coming to Pfeiffer, Hatley spent two years at Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida where he earned a Associate of Arts degree in 1992.

“I am very excited to add a coach of Seph’s caliber to our program,” said Couture. “He will bring a valuable blend of maturity and experience to our team especially having worked in the SAC for the last two seasons.”
