Sports Information Directors Select Daktronics Women’s Division II All-South Atlantic Region Teams
PC’s Sloan named to first team for third straight season

CLINTON, SC — There were an exceptional number of women playing in the South Atlantic Region in 2001, which made voting for the Daktronics All-South Atlantic Region Team one of the hardest in years. The Sports Information Directors from the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, Peach Belt Conference and South Atlantic Conference were up to the task, however, resulting in the following first and second teams.

   PC's Rachel Sloan

The first team had strong representation by all three conferences. Amba Kongolo (CIAA) and Rachel Sloan (SAC) were their respective conference’s player of the year while Kinesha Harden (PBAC) was the co-player of the year. Denise Shelton was a first team All-SAC selection while Ginell Curtis was a second team All-PBAC choice.
Sloan, a 6-0 senior forward/center from Greenville, SC earns the award for the third straight season. She is also a two-time Kodak All-American and SAC Player of the Year selection. The former Carolina Academy standout finishes her career in a Blue Hose uniform as the program’s all-time leading scorer (1,889) and rebounded (1,034). She is one of only seven players in South Atlantic Conference history to reach 1,000 points and 1,000 rebounds in their career. In addition, Sloan is the league’s all-time leader in career field goals made (691) and free throws made (462) while ranking, 3rd in career scoring (1,889), 3rd in career FG% (54.7%), 4th in steals (264), and 6th in career rebounds (1,034) and tied for first in SAC history in career games played (121).

This season Sloan averaged 17.7 points per game, 8.4 rebounds, 0.80 blocks, 2.7 assists, 1.9 steals while shooting 51.5% from the field, 24.4% from the three-point line and 78.1% from the charity stripe. She tallied 11 double-doubles (pts-rbs) this season and ends her career with 41. She also finished the season ranking in the following SAC statistical categories: 4th scoring, T-5th steals, 6th FG%, 5th rebs, 5th blocks, 7th FT%.
