PC’S MONROE NAMED TO VERIZON ACADEMIC ALL-DISTRICT TEAM

CLINTON, SC — Presbyterian College senior women’s basketball player Amy Monroe (Tuscaloosa, AL) has been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District III Women’s Basketball second team, college division announced today.

Monroe, a 5-6 senior point guard who played at Hillcrest High School, was one of six women’s basketball players named to the second team.

Monroe has excelled on and off the court during her playing career for the Blue Hose having been named to the school’s Dean’s List (3.2 GPA) for four semesters and the President’s List (4.0 GA) for three semesters. She carries a 3.93 GPA in Accounting and is a member of the Sigma Kappa Alpha Honor Society, four-time member of the South Atlantic Conference Academic Honor Roll, and is a member of Who’s Who Among Students in American University & Colleges.

During her tenure on the basketball court, she has helped lead the Blue Hose to a three-plus year record of 95-23, which is the best for a senior class in program history. In addition, the Blue Hose have compiled four consecutive 20-win seasons. Among the honors that the senior class which includes Monroe and teammates Rachel Sloan and Tracy Woody have accomplished is three straight SAC regular season and Tournament titles, three straight trips to the NCAA Division II National Tournament and a school and SAC-record 28-win season a year ago.

Monroe and her fellow Blue Hose return to action this Saturday, February 24 at 6:00 pm for the regular season finale at home versus Newberry College. PC will host the first round game of the Food Lion/South Atlantic Tournament next Tuesday, February 27 at home starting at 6:00 pm.
