BLUE HOSE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL RANKED #18 
IN PRESEASON DIVISION II BULLETIN PRESEASON POLL

CLINTON, SC — Presbyterian College women’s basketball team has been selected as #18 in the Division II Bulletin Magazine preseason NCAA Division II poll announced today.

The Blue Hose, under the direction of 12th-year head coach Beth Couture, return three letterwinners and 11 letterwinners from last season’s school and South Atlantic Conference record 28-2 team which won their third straight SAC regular season and tournament titles and finished the season ranked #14 in the WBCA/USA Today national poll. The Blue Hose advanced to the NCAA Division II National Tournament for the fifth time in the last six years as well.

Leading the way for PC this season is a trio of All-SAC performers in seniors Rachel Sloan, and Tracy Woody, and junior Toni Leopard. Sloan, a 6-0 center from Greenville, SC, is a two-time Kodak All-American and averaged 15.1 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.8 steals and shot 52.1% from the field last season. Woody, a 5-9 wing from Mauldin, SC, averaged 11.6 points, 6.0 rebounds while shooting 44.9% from the field and 79.0% from the free throw line. Rounding out the returning starters is Leopard, a 6-0 wing from Ninety-Six, SC that earned NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional All-Tournament honors last season. Leopard led the Blue Hose in scoring (15.2) while averaging 5.3 rebounds and shooting 45.3% from the field and 78.8% from the free throw line.

Presbyterian will open the 2000-2001 season at the Disney Division II Tip-Off Classic where they will take on 1999-2000 NCAA Division II runner-up, and preseason ranked #2 North Dakota State University on November 3.
