BIRNIE SIGNS WITH BLUE HOSE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

CLINTON, SC — Dana Birnie has signed a national letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Presbyterian College announced today by 12th-year head coach Beth Couture.

Birnie, a 5-11 wing player from Suwanee, GA, becomes the first signee for the Blue Hose this season. Birnie averaged 17.7 points, 10.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while playing at the Wesleyan School in Norcross, GA for head coach Jan Azar. She helped the Wolves to a 16-10 mark last season while earning team Most Valuable Player honors. During her junior year, Birnie tallied 10 double-doubles (pts.-rebounds).  Off the court, Birnie is a member of the National Honor Society and carries a 3.8 GPA.

“We are very excited about the signing of Dana,” said Couture. “She is very versatile player who can play several positions and is comfortable on the wing as well as in the post. We expect great things out of Dana throughout her career.”

Presbyterian, led by 12th-year head coach Beth Couture who owns a 216-102 career record in 11 seasons, is coming off last season’s school and South Atlantic Conference-record 28-2 campaign, which included the South Atlantic Regular Season title, the SAC Tournament title and a return trip to the NCAA Division II South Atlantic Regional. Presbyterian, who is ranked #18 in the Women’s Division II Bulletin Preseason Top 20, has won a share of the regular season title, the tournament title each of the last three seasons while also advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs five of the last six seasons.
