BLUE
HOSE SLIP PAST LADY INDIANS 86-79 IN OVERTIME CLINTON, SC - Presbyterian's trio of All-SAC performers in Toni Leopard, Rachel Sloan, and Tracy Woody each tallied 21 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 86-79 overtime win over Catawba College in women's basketball action. Both teams traded the lead in the first half with Catawba going ahead by six points at 10-4 at the 16:25 mark only to see PC go on a 15-2 run in the next five minutes to take the lead at 19-12. The Lady Indians cut the lead twice as the half ran out and tied the game on a layup by senior All-SAC performer Lakai Brice (Burlington, VA) with :13 seconds remaining. Catawba took control of the second half and staked out a five point lead (45-40) at the 13:09 mark before PC once again used a run (10-5) to retake the lead at 50-45 at the 11:09 mark. The Blue Hose built the lead to as many as seven points on several occasions, but Catawba fought back late and took a one point lead at 66-65 with 3:26 remaining. Sloan's jumper at the 3:00 mark gave PC back the lead, but the Lady Indians once again tied the game on a Brice layup with :11 seconds remaining to force overtime. In the extra frame, PC outscored the Lady Indians 15-8 including six-of-eight at the free throw line to seal the win. PC was led by Woody, a native of Mauldin, SC, who tallied 20 second-half points while and Sloan (Greenville, SC) who added 15 points in the second frame. Catawba was led by Brice who tallied a game-high 24 points with five steals while sophomore forward Dorthell Little (Rockingham, NC) scored 19 points with four rebounds. SAC Player of the Week selection, senior Donna Carr (Salisbury, NC) added 14 points and seven rebounds. PC improves to 14-5 overall and 4-1 in the South Atlantic Conference while Catawba falls to 13-4 overall and 4-1 in the SAC. The win pulls the Blue Hose into a tie for first place in the league with the Lady Indians. The Blue Hose improved their home SAC win steak to 33 games in a row with the victory. |
