PCs fast
start propels Blue Hose to SAC win over Lenoir-Rhyne
CLINTON, SC
The Presbyterian College womens basketball team scored the
games first 15 points as they recorded the 92-57 win over
Lenoir-Rhyne College Saturday afternoon in a South Atlantic
Conference game at the Ross E. Templeton Center. Presbyterian,
which has won all 24 meetings with Lenoir-Rhyne, improved to
13-5 overall and to 4-1 in the league. The Bears saw their
three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 11-5 overall and
to 3-2 in the conference. Rachel
Sloan led six Presbyterian players in double figures
as the Blue Hose notched their 32nd consecutive
conference home victory. Sloan also pulled down nine rebounds. The Blue
Hose, which shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the first half
(18-of-34), took a 15-0 on a 3-pointer from the left corner
from Katie Davis,
who along with Janet
Vicks scored 9 points for PC in the first half, with
10:46 remaining. Lenoir-Rhyne, which only hit 1-of-13 shots
from the floor to start the game, scored its first
points on a putback by Tracy Naidas, who led all
scorers with 16 points, with 9:58 left in the first half. PC, which
shot 61.1 percent (11-of-18) from 3-point field goal range,
took its biggest lead of the first half when Toni
Leopard nailed a 3-pointer from the left corner with
4:17 remaining. Lenoir-Rhyne, which shot just 32.1 percent
(9-of-28) in the first half, managed trim the Blue Hose
advantage down to 18 points (37-19) with a seven consecutive
points, but PC took a 42-21 lead at intermission. The
Blue Hose wasted little time in the second half expanding
their lead. PC started the half with a 19-9 run to push its
lead to 61-30 on a 3-point field goal by Leopard with 14:58
remaining. PCs biggest lead of the game was the final
score. Vicks
and Leopard each scored 12 points for PC, while Davis and Candice
Choice finished with 11 each.
Tracy Woody also
contributed 10 points for the Blue Hose, while Katie Marsh finished
with 12 for the Bears. PC will host Catawba College in a battle for first place in the SAC at 6 p.m. Wednesday, while Lenoir-Rhyne travels to Wingate University for a 6 p.m. game. |
