SECOND HALF PROPELS BLUE HOSE PAST LADY RIFLES 76-43 SPARTANBURG, SC -- The Presbyterian College Blue Hose (8-4) turned a close game into a rout with a dominant second half performance on the way to a 76-43 win over the USC Spartanburg Lady Rifles (4-5) Saturday afternoon at the Hodge Center. Presbyterian held a 33-28 advantage at intermission, but outscored USCS 43-15 over the final 20 minutes. Senior Tracy Woody led the second half surge with 10 points, and the Blue Hose held the Lady Rifles to just 4-23 (17%) shooting in the second half. The Blue Hose opened the second half with an 11-0 run -- including 8-8 from the charity stripe -- to take control. Presbyterian dominated at the free throw line, sinking 27-34, while USCS connected on just nine of 16 attempts. The first half was very competitive, with six lead changes. No team led by more than five over the final 13 minutes. USCS junior La'nel Hill kept the Lady Rifles in the game with 12 points and nine rebounds in the first half. Woody and Toni Leopard each had nine for PC. PC placed four players in double figures, led by Woody's game-high 19. Leopard added 13, Katie Davis 12, and Rachel Sloan 12 -- all from the free throw line. Woody also grabbed eight rebounds for the Blue Hose. Hill and Kia Manuel led USCS with 12 points apiece. Hill finished with nine boards. |
