SHEPPARD SIGNS WITH BLUE HOSE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL

CLINTON, SC — Anna Sheppard has signed a national letter of intent to play women’s basketball at Presbyterian College announced today by 13th-year head coach Beth Couture.

Sheppard, a 6-0 forward averaged 10.0 points and 10.0 rebounds last season while playing at the Wesleyan School in Norcross, GA for head coach Jan Azar. She helped lead the Lady Wolves to the Georgia High School Association (GHSA) Class A state championship game last season were they finished runner-up in the state. In addition, Wesleyan won the 2000-01 Region 8A championship.

Individually, Sheppard has excelled in the classroom, earning NFCA All-American Scholar Athlete honors and was named the Gwinnett County Tip-Off Scholar Athlete. This year she has been nominated for the Wendy’s Heisman award given annually to the top athletes in the state.

“Anna will be a great addition to our  program,” said Couture. “She is a very versatile post player who possesses three-point range. Anytime you can get a student-athlete of Anna’s caliber it is a big plus for your program, especially one from such a great high school program.”

Sheppard becomes the second signee for the Blue Hose this fall. Earlier this month, Rebecca Wessinger out of Laurens, SC signed with Presbyterian College.

Presbyterian, led by 13th-year head coach Beth Couture who owns a 237-108 career record in 12 seasons, is coming off this past season’s 22-8 campaign and a runner-up finish in the South Atlantic Conference regular season. Presbyterian finished the season ranked #23 in the USA Today/WBCA NCAA Division II Top 25.

The season the Blue Hose are off to a 2-0 start after winning the Armstrong Atlantic State University Tip-Off Classic over the past weekend.
