HOSE CRUISE PAST ALL-STARS 73-51 SPARTANBURG,
S.C. Presbyterian College sophomore Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, GA)
scored a game-high 16 points as the Blue Hose cruised to a
73-51 win over Converse College All-Stars in womens
basketball action Thursday night. The Blue Hose took control
early as freshman forward Dana
Birnie (Suwanee, GA) scored 11 of PCs first 13
points to open the game. The All-Stars kept the game close in
the first half as PC was not able to pull away. After Converse
cut the lead to 27-23, the Blue Hose went on a 5-2 run to end
the half and take a 32-25 lead into intermission. PC opened the second half
on a 7-2 run to take a 39-27 lead at the 17:27 mark. The
All-Stars cut the lead to four points (43-39) with 12:46
remaining on a 12-4 run. The Blue Hose responded with Werner
scoring six points in a 16-4 run to put the game out of reach
at 59-43 with 6:23 left in the game. PC held the lead in
double figures for the rest of the game and posted their
biggest lead at 71-47 with 1:06 remaining. Joining Werner for scoring
honors was Birnie who scored 15 points while sophomore guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, GA)
added 12 points. Werner tallied a career-high six steals on
the night and senior forward Toni Leopard (Ninety-Six, SC) rounded
out the double figure scorers with 10 points and eight
rebounds. Redshirt freshman Lauren Yanik (Greer, SC) came
off the bench to score six points and a career-high 10
rebounds. Converse was led by senior
guard Erla Reynisdottir
(Keflavik, Iceland) scored 14 points while senior forward Christy
Laughter (Hendersonville, NC) came off the bench score 11
points. Presbyterian improves to
13-6 overall and Converse falls to 7-15. The Blue Hose return
to action this Saturday, February 2 when the return to South
Atlantic Conference action as they host the Lady Pioneers of
Tusculum College at 2:00 pm. |
