GC & SU Upsets #11 Presbyterian 59-57

Columbus, GA - The Lady Bobcats of Georgia College & State University limited eleventh-ranked Presbyterian College to just 30 percent shooting in the second half and came from behind for a 59-57 upset win here on Friday. The game was the first of the day in the Columbus State University Holiday Classic.

Presbyterian (8-2) was able to stymie the GC & SU offense in the first half, holding the Lady Bobcats to just 23 percent from the floor and just seven field goals. The Blue Hose took a 30-27 lead into the break.

In the second half, PC took its biggest lead, 43-33, on a Dana Birnie jumper with 15:10 to play. From there, the Lady Bobcats went on a 10-3 run to close the gap to 46-43 on an April Hartley lay-up with 10:02 left.

GC & SU tied the game with 6:22 remaining on a Dalana Watson jumper and then took the lead for good just over a minute later on a Larkin Cleaveland lay-in. The Lady Bobcats took their biggest lead with 2:16 to play on a Betsy Foy trey which capped a 9-1 run.

PC cut the lead to two points on a Merritt Misner jumper with 1:43 to play. After a GC & SU bucket stretched the lead back to four points, Toni Leopard again cut the lead to two points with a lay-up with three ticks left. PC’s pressure could not force a turnover as time expired.

Leopard led PC with 18 points, while Ja’net Vicks posted a career-high with 15 to go with a game-high nine rebounds. PC out-rebounded the Lady Bobcats 48-39, but hit just 20 of 64 field goal attempts – 10-33 in the second half.  

Foy led GC & SU (4-4) with 20 points and six rebounds. Watson added 10 to go with her six boards. The Lady Bobcats shot 50 percent in the second half and committed just 13 turnovers on the afternoon.
