HOSE HOLD ON FOR 77-70 WIN OVER LENOIR-RHYNE IN SAC WOMENS
BASKETBALL ACTION CLINTON,
SC Presbyterian College sophomore guard Billie
Haskins (Greensboro, GA) scored a career-high 18 points
as the Blue Hose defeated Lenoir-Rhyne College 77-70 in South
Atlantic Conference womens basketball action Saturday
afternoon. Haskins led
four Blue Hose in double figures as Presbyterian improved to
17-7 overall and 8-4 in league play. Lenoir-Rhyne falls to
17-7, 7-5 in the SAC. Presbyterian
held a slim 31-26 lead at intermission thanks in part to 10
first half points from senior guard Nicole
Chittam (Lancaster, SC). The Blue Hose held a 12-point
lead (30-18) at the 4:09 mark, but the Bears used a 8-1 run to
end the half. The Blue
Hose led throughout the second half, but could not put the
Bears away. Presbyterian led 62-49 with 8:46 left in the game,
but Lenoir-Rhyne cut the lead to 75-70 with :30 left on a 20-8
run. Presbyterian responded with three free throws down the
stretch including Haskins who hit a pair of free throws with
:24 left to seal the victory. Presbyterian
was led in scoring by Chittam and sophomore guard Bonnie
Werner (Kennesaw, GA) each scored 16 points while
senior center JaNet Vicks (Greer,
SC) added 10 points. Lenoir-Rhyne was led by senior forward Tracy Naidas (Conover, NC) who scored a game-high 25 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Joining Naidas was junior center Amber Hanks (Pulaski, VA) who added 17 points while freshman forward Shea Blacknell (Chapel Hill, NC) added 12 points. |
