BLUE HOSE HOLD ON FOR 86-84 WIN OVER TUSCULUM IN SAC WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ACTION
PC’s Werner scores team-high 19 points in Blue Hose victory

CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian College sophomore guard Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, GA) scored a team-high 19 points to lead the Blue Hose  to a 86-84 win over Tusculum College in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.  

PC took an early lead to open the game, but the Lady Pioneers fought their way back and trailed only by two points (27-25) with 5:06 remaining first half.  The Blue Hose extended their lead back to eight points, but Tusculum used a 9-2 run the end the half and trail by a score of 39-38 at the half.

The second half was close throughout as neither team was able to build more than a five-point lead. Tusculum trailed 77-70 with 3:33 left in the game, but cut the lead to one-point at 77-76 on a 6-0 run with 2:17 left in the game. PC hit seven-of-nine free throws down the stretch to ice the game.

PC was led by Werner’s 19 points and six assists while freshman forward Dana Birnie (Suwanee, GA) scored 18 points while sophomore guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, GA) and senior guard Nicole Chittam (Lancaster, SC) each added 14 points, Chittam's being a career-high.

Tusculum was led in scoring by freshman guard Julie Maples (Knoxville, TN) who scored a career-high 27 points and junior center Whitley Campbell (Oak Ridge, TN) added 19 points and 10 rebounds.  

Presbyterian improves to 14-6 overall and 5-3 in the SAC while Tusculum falls to 6-14 overall and 1-7 in the SAC.
