WOMEN’S BASKETBALL ACTION

Lady Eagles snap Blue Hose’s 37-game home SAC win streak

CLINTON, SC – Carson-Newman’s junior guard Monica Asburn and Amber Blue each scored 12 points to lead the Lady Eagles to a 71-63 upset win over #18 Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Saturday afternoon.

Asburn, a native of Deerloge, TN and Blue, a native of Greeneville, TN led three players in double figures.

Presbyterian held a 31-29 lead at intermission only to see the Lady Eagles take their first lead of the game at the 7:33 mark on a layup by sophomore forward Stacie Dunn (Newport, TN). The Lady Eagles built a five-point lead (58-53) at the 4:54 mark and held off the Blue Hose run down the stretch to win. Dunn finished the game with 11 points and seven rebounds.

The win snapped a 37-game win streak against South Atlantic Conference opponents for the Blue Hose at home.

Presbyterian was led by senior Toni Leopard (Ninety-Six, SC) who scored a game-high 16 points while sophomore guard Billie Haskins (Greensboro, GA) added 13 points. Leopard added eight rebounds while sophomore guard Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, GA) added five assists. 

Both team turned the ball over with PC committing 23 turnovers and Carson-Newman 20.

Carson-Newman improves to 5-7 overall and 2-1 in the SAC while Presbyterian falls to 10-4 overall and 2-1 in the SAC.
