BLUE HOSE CRUISE PAST CATAWBA 69-49
PC’s Werner leads Blue Hose with 17 points on 
Senior Night 2002

CLINTON, SC – Presbyterian College’s sophomore guard Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, GA) scored a game-high 17 points to lead the Blue Hose to a 69-49 win over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference women’s basketball action Wednesday night.

The Blue Hose celebrated Senior Night 2002 with five seniors for PC playing in their last home regular season game. Werner scored nine of her 17 points in the second half.

Presbyterian took a 36-30 lead into intermission thanks in part to 12 first half points by senior center Ja’Net Vicks (Greer, SC). The Blue Hose were redhot from the field in the first half shooting 58.3% while holding the Indians to only 44.0%.

The second half saw the Blue Hose push the lead to 20 points at 58-38 with 7:35 remaining. The Indians cut the lead to 15 points (60-45) with 3:50 remaining on a jumper by sophomore post Danyel Locklear (Pembroke, NC). That was as close as the Indians would get as PC outscored Catawba 9-4 to end the game.

PC was led by Vicks’ 14 points while fellow senior Nicole Chittam (Lancaster, SC) added five points and a career-high nine rebounds. Redshirt freshman Lauren Yanik (Greer, SC) came off the bench for eight points and four rebounds.

Catawba was led by Locklear’s 16 points and game-high 14 rebounds while freshman guard Ashley Cox (Richmond, VA) added eight points and four assists.

Presbyterian improves to 18-7 overall and 9-4 in the SAC while Catawba falls to 19-6 overall and 9-4 in league play. The Blue Hose are now tied with the Indians for second  place in league play and will win the tiebreaker with Catawba due to sweeping the season series.
