Presbyterian Basketball Defeats Livingstone 88-40

Hickory, N.C. - Senior Toni Leopard (Ninety-Six, S.C.) scored 29 points as the Presbyterian College women's basketball team defeated Livingstone College 88-40.  

The #18-ranked Blue Hose improved their season record to 6-0 overall while the Blue Bears fell to 1-5.  Presbyterian will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to the University of S.C.-Aiken for a 7 p.m. tip-off.  Livingstone will take a nine-day break before hosting conference-foe Virginia State on Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.

Neither team could manage a point until almost three minutes had past in the first half.  Presbyterian scored the first two points of the game at the 17:02 mark and never looked back.  For the first half, the Blue Hose shot a remarkable 75.8 percent from the field while the Blue Bears connected on only 30.3 percent of their shots.  Leopard's 20 first half points propelled the Blue Hose to commanding 55-25 lead after the first half.

The Blue Hose did not let up in the second half as they pushed their lead to as many as 51 points.  The Blue Hose held Livingstone to 15 points on 16.1% shooting and outrebounding them 27 to 18 in the second half.

For the game the Blue hose held Livingstone to 23.4 percent shooting from the field and outrebounded them 46-32.  PC also outshot the Blue Bears from the three-point line as they made 5 of 12 (41.7 percent) compared to 2 of 18 (11.1 percent) for Livingstone.  The Blue Bears were outscored in the paint 38 to 22, and they only scored 11 points off turnovers compared to 27 for PC.

In just 27 minutes of play, Leopard grabbed four rebounds to go along with her 29 points. Freshman Dana Birnie (Suwanee, Ga.) came off the bench to score 18 points and grab seven rebounds.  Sophomore guard Bonnie Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) contributed with seven assists in the winning effort.  Katie Davis (Gainesville, Ga.)  added seven rebounds and three assists for the Blue Hose.

Coming off the bench to lead the Blue Bears in scoring was junior forward Emmerita Foster who contributed seven points.  Junior forward Keneshia Jackson added six points and amassed 10 rebounds in the effort for the Blue Bears.
