MARS HILL HOLDS ON FOR AN 82-75 OVERTIME WIN

SC Mars Hill
Colleges senior wing Denise Shelton (Cambridge, IN)
scored a team-high 22 points with 16 rebounds as the
#19-ranked Lady Lions held on for a 82-75 win over
Presbyterian College in South Atlantic Conference womens
basketball action Wednesday night.
Mars Hill
held a slim 34-30 lead at intermission after shooting 48.1%
from the field in the first half led by senior forward Tiffany
Myers (Hayesville, NC) who scored 10 first half points off
the bench.
The game
went back and forth in the second half as both teams took
turns holding the lead. Presbyterian led by four
points with 1:24 remaining when Mars Hill a free throw
and a three-pointer by Atkins to tie the game and force
overtime.
In
overtime, the Lady Lions outscored Presbyterian 15-8 including
four free throws in the last :52 seconds by Shelton to seal
the win.
Mars Hill
was led by Shelton who added eight assists and led three other
players in double figures. Sophomore forward Tiffany Atkins
(Barnardville, NC) tallied 17 points and eight rebounds
while Myers finished with 12 points. Rounding out the double
figure scorers for Mars Hill was junior wing Holly
Carringer (Murphy, NC) who scored 12 points.
Presbyterian
was led by senior forward Toni
Leopard (Ninety-Six, SC) and freshman guard Noel
Livernois (Greenwood, SC) who each scored 14 points.
Livernois total was a career-high. Sophomore Bonnie
Werner (Kennesaw, GA) added 11 points while senior
guard Nicole Chittam (Lancaster,
SC) came off the bench for 10 points.
Mars Hill
improves to 13-1 overall and 4-0 in the SAC while Presbyterian
falls to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in league play.
