BLUE HOSE
CRUISE TO A 97-42 WIN OVER LADY INDIANS
PCs Birnie scores career-high 24 points in Blue Hose

SC Presbyterian College freshman Dana
Birnie (Suwanee, GA) scored career-high 24 points to
lead the Blue Hose to a 97-42 win over visiting Lady Indians
of Newberry College in South Atlantic Conference womens
basketball action.
Presbyterian
dominated from the start holding Newberry without a field goal
for the first 10 minutes of the game. The Blue Hose led 18-10
at the 8:59 mark and ended the half on a 30-7 run to take a
commanding 48-17 lead at intermission.
PCs
senior Toni Leopard (Ninety-Six,
SC) led the way with 13 points and 11 rebounds by halftime.
The Blue Hose held Newberry to 9.4% shooting from the field
first half and dominated the boards 35-15 by intermission.
The second
half saw the Blue Hose increase the lead to as many as 55
points (97-42) as time expired.
Presbyterian
was led by Birnies 24 points and eight rebounds while
Leopard added 17 points and 14 rebounds. All but one Blue Hose
player scored in the game. Redshirt freshman Lauren
Yanik (Greer, SC) added 10 points and six rebounds off
the bench.
Newberry,
playing without leading scorer Shawanna Cook, was led
by sophomore guard Tasha Farmer (McBee, SC) who scored
11 points off the bench. Senior forward Carlie Smith (Clinton,
SC) added 10 points.
Presbyterian
improves to 12-6 overall, 4-3 in the SAC while Newberry falls
to 2-16 overall and 0-7 in league play.
