Women Place Four In Double Figures To
Beat Presbyterian 81-67

Anderson College placed four players in double figures to beat
Presbyterian 81-67 in a non-conference women's game Saturday
afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.
The Lady Trojans, 1-3 overall, jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the
first three minutes of the game and led by as many as 18 points
before beating back a furious PC rally in the second half.
Anderson was led by Deanna
Thompson with 20 points, Amy
Davidson with 17 points, Decole
Shoemate with 16 points, and Shemika
Reed with 15 points. Davidson and Shoemate also had seven
assists apiece. Davidson also made a season-high five 3-point
goals.
PC, 0-4 overall, was led by junior guard Billie
Haskins (Greensboro, Ga.) with 23 points and freshman forward Rebecca
Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) with 20 points.
AC led 39-28 at the half and built its lead to 15 points (56-41),
with 12:34 remaining. But from that point, PC put together a
19-6 run that cut the Anderson lead to 62-58 with 5:08 to play.
Junior guard Bonnie
Werner (Kennesaw, Ga.) scored eight of her 10 points during the Blue Hose
run.
Two
free throws by Reed and layups by Thompson and Reed push the
Lady Trojans' lead back to 10 - 68-58 - with 4:24 left. PC got
no closer than seven points the rest of the way.
AC shot 47 percent from the field to 46 percent for PC. AC scored
34 points off 25 Blue Hose turnovers. AC committed a season-low
15 turnovers.
The victory was AC's first over PC since becoming a full member of
Division II in 1999. PC had won the previous three meetings
between the two schools by an average margin of 19 points.
