PC WOMEN USE LATE RUN TO DEFEAT COKER IN MILLER INVITATIONAL

Wingate, NC - The Presbyterian College Blue Hose women’s basketball team used a 16-2 run late in the second half to hand the Coker College Cobras a 66-57 defeat in the first day of the 2003 Miller Orthopedic Clinic Invitational. The invitational is being held in Cuddy Arena on the campus of Wingate University. 

Presbyterian (3-7) will try and notch another win tomorrow when they face East Stroudsburg University at 2 p.m. Coker (2-5) will try and rebound Saturday when they face host Wingate University in the 6 p.m. match up. 

Coker College led the majority of the second half until they went cold with just over six minutes remaining. With Coker leading 55-50, the Blue Hose tallied 16 points while holding the Cobras to only two free throws. 

Leading the Blue Hose was junior guard Bonnie Werner who led all scorers with 24 points. Sophomore center Lauren Yanik also had an impressive game for Presbyterian, notching a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

The Cobras were led by junior center Leanne Chandler who scored 16 points and grabbed 8 boards. Junior forward Selena Davis provided the Cobras with a spark off the bench, coming in to record 14 points and 6 rebounds.
