CRUISE PAST ALL-STARS 86-50

College junior guard Billie Haskins
(Greensboro, Ga.) tallied a career-high tying 27 points to led
four players in double figures as the Blue Hose defeated the
Converse College All-Stars 86-50 Tuesday night.
The first
half started off slow with both teams taking turns holding the
lead. The All-Stars led 13-12 at the 13:29 mark on a jumper by
freshman guard Sophie Hofferberth (Bedfordale,
Australia). The Blue Hose used a 23-2 run over the next eight
minutes to take a commanding 35-15 lead. The Blue Hose run was
highlighted by Haskins 14 points including a trio of
three-point field goals. PC pushed the
lead to as many as 29 points at 46-17 in the closing minutes of
the first half and led 48-22 entering intermission. The Blue
Hose shot 46.5% from the field in the first half and placed
three players in double figures led by Haskins 17 points.
Redshirt sophomore center Lauren
Yanik (Greer,
S.C.) registered her third straight double-double with 10 points
and 10 rebounds. Freshman forward Rebecca
Wessinger (Laurens, S.C.) added 12 points. Converse was
led in the first half by Hofferberths 14 points. The Blue Hose
kept the lead in double figures throughout the second half as
they used their deep bench and size advantage to keep the
All-Stars in check. Converse struggled to shoot 37.5% from the
field in the second half and were dominated on the boards for
the game by a 54-33 PC advantage. Haskins, this
weeks SAC Player of the Week, continued her stellar play
tonight hitting 11-of-14 field goals including four-of-five from
three-point land en route to 27 points. Joining Haskins for
scoring honors was Yanik with 13 points and 13 rebounds and
Wessinger added 14 points. Sophomore guard Sarah
Woods (Florence, Ky.) came off the bench
to add 11 points and four assists. Converse was
led by Hofferbeths team-high 16 points while sophomore center
Lindsey Parker (Spartanburg, S.C.) added nine points and
eight rebounds. Presbyterian improves to 9-10 overall and extended their win streak to four straight. Converse falls to 2-15 on the season. |
